Scattering Seeds Of Hope

Two weeks ago I wrote a post about flourishing, and this week I had the honour and privilege of my first speaking event this year. I was invited to share about my journey and the concept of flourishing with a very special group of women.

I felt hugely excited and just a teensy bit nervous all at the same time! Although I have studied Performing Art, been a Presenter for a kiddies TV programme, and public speaking comes pretty naturally to me, I guess telling one’s own story is a whole new thing – it’s not about performing and acting – it’s about being authentic and transparent and vulnerable – oneself! Sometimes this can feel a little raw and one can feel vulnerable but I have found that most often, it encourages others to feel free and safe enough to take off their masks and be truly themselves and freer to share their own stories. Authenticity is so liberating.

Although I had yet to meet most of these ladies and despite most of them never seeing my face or shaking my hand prior to this engagement, they had heard of me and my story and had been faithfully covering me in prayer for the last three years. Wow! How grateful I am for people like this!

I had a good laugh when I was told that they couldn’t wait to meet me because they felt as though they already knew me! I guess they knew of me and about me…but the real me they were still to experience for themselves.

And that got me thinking,.. so often we may hear or read what others say about God and we think that we know Him, but to really know Him we first need to ‘meet’ Him personally and discover Him for ourselves. This entails a personal relationship and not just hearsay. He longs and waits for that moment!

It was wonderful meeting and chatting with each special lady and have them pray for me and me for them! Oh the joy of that personal connection. There is something so special about looking deeply into someone’s eyes and having a heart connection, even if just for a moment.

I must say if every group feeds me as well as they did we may have a BIG problem by the end of the year. Freshly baked milk tart (still warm and delightful), ginormous farm style scones with jam and a hefty dollop of cream… Oh did I mention the cupcakes and chocolate they gave me? Along with a bouquet of beautiful white flowers… I have a thing for white roses!

All this talk of cake. Perhaps I should go for a run and work off that milk tart…. Hmmmmm…

Time To Fly

Today is a momentous day for me. Just like a pilot is given his/ her wings, so too was I awarded mine.

The very next day after my attack I sought the support and knowledge of an experienced counselor. Unfortunately I found her not very user friendly. We just didn’t gel well at all..and two months into my case she took a sabbatical. It was so difficult for me at the time but what a blessing in disguise as I then met a very calm, kind hearted psychologist who has journeyed with me ever since.

Today, after a few years, she looked across at me and said, “It’s time for the bird to fly”

She said that she was very pleased and happy with the progress, healing and growth I’ve done since the attack. The need for me to see her is no longer. Wow… What a sense of achievement and fulfillment I feel. When I look back at where I was when I started seeing the psychologist to where I am now, I marvel at the work of God’s healing hand.

As the song Silver Convention sings, “fly Robin fly, up,up to the sky”

Just a short post to touch sides and share this news with you…The first Tuesday of every month is now open at 10:30…All coffee offers are now welcome and are being reviewed;)

All my love,
A feathery & free Cayly Robyn bird..

Time To… Flourish!

Yesterday was a typical hot South African day. Where most sensible people headed off to the beach…no, not I… I felt like doing some retail damage… SO I headed off to the shops with the full intention of walking away with some beautiful (yet highly unneccessary) fashion item to put into my already brimming cupboard. Thankfully common sense prevailed and I resisted the urge to buy what the shops had on offer (seriously, why is every item of clothing lumo or neon right now?!- yuk!)

I did, however, stumble upon a marvelous discovery…I am now the owner of a BEAUTIFUL new diary! It’s not just any old diary with any old 2013 emblazoned across it…it is a well designed, thought provoking and wonderfully inspiring little book. I have an eye for beauty and the pages are brimming with sketches and pretty fonts and creative ideas…

I justified this purchase with the decision that I do need to honour myself and my time and plan my year … (it already has a good number of appointments, speaking invitations and, of course, coffee dates penned in).

Truth be told, the minute I discovered that the theme of this diary was ‘Flourish’, I knew I just HAD to have it! I totally resonate with that! I couldn’t agree more! I am so excited about this year and the adventures and growth that are in store!

I am currently reading a book called ‘The Crowd, The Critic, and the Muse: A Book for creators’, By Michael Gungor. I really feel it’s a season where we need to fearlessly walk in our creative passions!

Gungor says, “Creativity is simply the human brain forming new connections between ideas, and we all are engaged in this process every day. The common idea that there are some creative people who are creative and some who are not is a myth. On some level, we are all artists. We are all creators.”

“Art matters. It is not simply a leisure activity for the privileged or a hobby for the eccentric. It is a practical good for the world. The work of the artist is an expression of hope – it is a homage to the value of human life, and it is vital to society. Art is a sacred expression of human creativity that shares the same ontological ground as all human work. Art, along with all work is the ordering of creation toward the intention of the Creator”

Michael Gungor and his wife form one of my favourite music groups, Gungor. They capture the essence of beauty and music and creation all in a melodic paradise! Their lyrics are deep and meaningful and capture the beauty of walking with Christ, in a normal, non cheesey way.

I have digressed, so getting back to his book – if you can get a copy of this , do so! (it is available on kindle)

This book and the diary symbolise the essence of my hopes and dreams for this year … my prayer is that you and I will not only flourish but be a creative burst of beauty and growth and that we will honour our Creator with our talents.

I was very blessed this Christmas by my family. Knowing my love of film, photography and story telling, they bought me a shiny, new camera… so watch this space.. Plenty flourish and creativity coming your way;)

So, whether it be in your thinking, in your actions or your art work, be creative! Think outside the box and allow God room to flourish in your life!

“Creative work should not come out of who the external voices want you to be, or who you wish to be, but from who you are”
